Thought for the Day

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;

To leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

This is the meaning of success.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

A little food for my introspection . . . thanks for sharing (no, I'm not being sarcastic).

I have read that before and loved it. But, having just turned 49 yesterday, certain parts of it resonate more with me, certain things in it have happened to me . . .

Thank you for reminding us what true success is.

I am about to have lunch with a true friend who has become closer to me since the betrayal of my ex-husband. My best friend since 7th grade (letterboxer Yiker) is coming up this weekend to celebrate my birthday and maybe box.

I cherish my honest critics and true friends so much more as I complete more rotations around the sun.

I strive to leave the world a little better every day (though it's usually through children and not AT ALL through my garden!)

Always, always, I am grateful for my loving G-d who blesses me daily.

Great comment Susan! I agree, the older I get the more important relationships become - the true and honest ones, that is. I'm sorry about the betrayal, but it sounds like you have your head in the right place, my friend!

Thanks so much for reading my blog! :-)
