De-Cluttering

just another little clutter collector,
the container meant to catch things that came
through the laundry...

"Three Rules of Work:
Out of clutter find simplicity;
From discord find harmony;
In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
~Albert Einstein

Is it a fad right now to de-clutter one's life?  Or it may just be the season of life I'm in...I'm not sure.  Further, if clutter is a noun, de-clutter must be a verb, right?  I suppose so, because I sure get tired and dirty doing it!

For about the last two weeks, every day, I have been picking a spot in my too-big home to de-clutter.  I've read blogs of de-cluttering and am inspired to go through just about every dark corner, neglected closet and junk drawer in my home.  Yes, me and my kiddos have been filling up trash cans and making multiple runs to the local Goodwill.  Oh, I know I could spend a lot of time trying to sell some of these items, but what is my time worth, anyway?  Probably more than the $3 or less I'd get for some of these things, I'm thinkin'.

So, keep-give away-toss it is, and man, I'm emptying out a lot of junk.  To be completely honest, it's long over-due and desperately needed.  I mean, there is still stuff in here that we inherited when we moved in!  I suppose timing is everything, and the time is now.

I like how my physical life mimics my mental life.  Getting rid of the clutter is a very, very good thing.

"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful,
or believe to be beautiful."
~William Morris

"The more things you own, the more things own you."

The opposite of simplicity, as I understand it, is not complexity but clutter.
~Scott Russell Sanders

“The secret of happiness, you see,
is not found in seeking more,
but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.”
-Socrates,
Way of the Peaceful Warrior

Just as an aside, I did find something rather cool today while I was ruthlessly de-cluttering the laundry room...

the Force is definitely with me!

I like that you're holding his head in your hand...:oP

I'm finding great satisfaction in de-cluttering our little house. It's amazing how much junk is tucked away here... yes, it reflects my mental attitude, too.

You know I go through periods of de-cluttering and find it soooooo therapeutic! I aim to hit the wardrobe and drawers this week and that attic weeeeell......its a close my eyes job and perhaps, just perhaps go through one box per month?

I enjoy de-cluttering and sometimes, the good stuff I 'recycle' as gifts that I think others may enjoy.....its a good way of blessing some friends...we use to do this every Hannukah.....dinner guests had to bring someone else a gift that was from their home and now surplus to requirement!!! It was fun!

I love to see empty cupboard space but then hate to hear an echoey room so I'm careful, I still want my home to be homey and cosy :-) ..... and that it is !

Keep at it, girl!

(By the way, I'll have you know, I withheld two puns just now -- in case anybody's keepin' track!)

Yes, it seems that everyone is de-cluttering right now. I wonder if the thrift stores feel overwhelmed?

Some of the junk we're finding, I would swear none of us brought into this house. Like wire hangars in the closet. I don't think anybody really buys those. They just spontaneously generate when your back is turned.
