Rhetorical, it is.

What if...after I heard of your great faith in the LORD Yeshua and for your love and commitment to the congregation of believers, that I never stopped giving thanks for you?

What if...I prayed daily, or whenever I remembered throughout the day, that our LORD give you abundant wisdom and knowledge of Himself, even allowing you to understand Him more than you could even imagine?

What if...I prayed that you know what is the hope of His purposes for you and all those around you?

What if I did that instead of judging, condemning and confronting?  What if I built you up, encouraging you with friendship and love, instead of tearing you down or laying in wait to ambush?  How would that be viewed by the Almighty?  Would it make our relationship stronger?  Would it make our community stronger...better?

"Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe . . ."
~The Apostle Paul to the believers in Ephesus

What if I was only concerned with my own weaknesses and failings and not the weaknesses of others?  What if I respected others as fellow adults and believers, knowing full well that we will all have to answer for our actions to the Holy One on the day of judgment?

I think I'll give it a try and see what happens.

When asked which is the greatest commandment, Yeshua replied,

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."  ~Matthew 22:37-40

It may be rhetorical, but I think often people often feel they have to "prove" their worth and piety. This comes by pointing out the ways that other are less than pure. Somehow they feel they are building themselves up by tearing others down.

In truth, those among us who are the happiest and most confident are content to let others believe and worship as they see fit.

I strive every day to accept people as they are--sometimes failing, but ever hopeful.

I know it's rhetorical . . . *sigh*

I love you.
Laura, I couldn't have said it better myself. I completely agree and am, also, hopeful. :-)

Oh, beautifully said!

But if we give up judging others, then we have to face ourselves.
What if.......?

Facing ourselves is always a worthy task - how else can we truly learn to love others as the Master says?
