Fear Not

If you are believer in the Creator of the Universe, the Master of All, He has something to say to you,

Fear not.

I encounter fear everyday - it's all around us. Just the mention of the word makes a warning bell ring in my head. The LORD does not wish us to be fearful, but faithful. Faithful in His provision, guidance and mercy. He is a mighty warrior against our enemies when we cry out to Him and trust. Walking in faith though difficult times strengthens the very faith that causes us to say, "the LORD is with me, I will not fear."

Below are just a few verses from throughout the Bible that speak about being afraid. Not the fear of G-d, but of the terrifying fear of hunger, pain, torture and death. Only He can deliver us from that kind of horrifying, blood-chilling fear that grips us all at one time or another. Read these words and let them wash over you like soft rain, for this is our G-d, our Protector in times of trouble.

After these things, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying,"Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." (Gen 15:1)

The LORD appeared to him the same night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham; Do not fear, for I am with you, I will bless you and multiply your descendants, For the sake of My servant Abraham." (Gen 26:24)

Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. (Ex 14:13)

Do not fear them, for the LORD your G-d is the one fighting for you. (Deut. 3:2)

The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." (Deut 31:8)

Joshua then said to them, "Do not fear or be dismayed! Be strong and courageous, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies with whom you fight." (Josh 10:25)

Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident. (Ps 27:3)

The LORD is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? (Ps 118:6)

Say to those with anxious heart,"Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; the recompense of God will come, but He will save you." (Is. 35:4)

'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your G-d, I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' (Is. 41:10)

For I am the LORD your G-d, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ' Do not fear, I will help you.' (Is. 41.13)

For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought, nor cease to yield fruit. (Jer. 17.8)

Do not fear, O land, rejoice and be glad, for the LORD has done great things. (Joel 2:21)

Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. (Matt. 10:26)

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. (John 14:27)

But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED... (1Pet 3:14)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. (1John 4:18)

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (Rev 2:10)

Thank you for drawing those together in one spot. He obviously intended for us to be reminded of it. And for those who do not read blogs . . . maybe I'll just print this out.
I guess it's only fair that some 'just don't read blogs'...I have said for years that I don't read the newspaper... :-P

If someone you loved had a column in that newspaper . . . something in me says you'd read that column.

Tell me that's not true.
I guess we must have a different definition of 'love'...

And, you are correct, MC.
love it! nice line-up! It was a real revelation to me, a few years ago, to read in Revelation 22 that "the fearful" are on the list of those destined for the lake of fire in the end. So, not only is fear discouraged by the Lord, it is actually a sin! It was a way of life for me, and He has been faithful to help me start walking away from it, and experience more freedom! Hallelujah! :-)

Great scriptures, Liz!

Here's another passage on fear that really touches me:

Luke 12

22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

I wrote today, regarding someone I admire very much,"I am worried." It bothered me to admit that, but I think it would have bothered me more not to face this honestly.

"Worried" is just another word for "fearful."

I would rather be honest about it, facing it, than live in denial.

Your Scripture quotations are beneficial.
