Who needs sound, anyway?

Is it allowed to just say that I hate computers? Well, that may be a bit strong...how 'bout I hate computer problems?

After a couple of unexpected short power outages, it would seem that my sound card is no longer among the living. Yeah, that's right; no welcoming tones, no "oops, you can't do that" warning beeps, no video sound, no music...NO MUSIC??

I have attempted loading and reloading updates, ran diagnostics and prayed, all with the same result: bupkis. Thankfully, I am still able to get on the internet. So, I guess I unplug the silly thing this weekend, haul it in to my favorite computer geek and beg for mercy. What a hassle.

In the meantime, any suggestions, sympathy and prayers would be welcome.

You without music . . . something's not right about that. I'm praying. This will feel like a loooong week, I'm sure. I think if I were you, I would just go to the beach.

Sounds like the surge may have fried your sound card. After updating and re-loading,it's kinda obvious it isn't the drivers themselves.
What a bummer.

Replace it yourself. I've opened the box up before and put in RAM before and after looking at other parts while in there it's pretty simple. Unscrew, pull out, put new one in, screw down. In some cases the screwing is not necessary...just 'lock' it in place. Obviously look all this up online first and make printouts. :)
