My New Toy

Yeah, I caved and bought an iTouch. My lovely daughter purchased one with her birthday money and I quickly discerned that the sleek-looking device was exactly what I needed to keep my calendar in order.

A few years back I splurged on a Palm electronic organizer. I absolutely loved it; I kept my busy calendar, contacts, notes, everything I needed on the fly - I had my whole life in that Palm. Then the day came that it crashed...oy vey! It was horrible - I was devastated and so irritated that I didn't replace it. Consequently, I have limped along for these past few years double-booking appointments, losing information and basically looking like an organizational mess. I tried to go back to an old-school paper 'daytimer', but that never worked as well as the ever-so convenient Palm I could just slip into my purse and go.

More recently, I hit the wall. I just can't stand not having necessary information at my fingertips. So, I decided to buy another Palm electronic organizer. I set to researching them online only to quickly discover there was no such animal anymore; I would have to purchase a new phone to get a Palm. Ack! I don't need a new phone, I need an organizer! After pricing out the Palm phones, I abandoned my quest for control due to sticker-shock.

Then Morgan got the iTouch. "Gosh, I think I need one of those," was my first thought after seeing the calendar. And, I did give my MP3 player to my youngest when his died. Yeah, I can live without an MP3 player, but there has been times when I wanted to listen to a podcast or teaching...

So, I bought one. I really like it! I chose the 8G, since I don't think I need more memory than that, to be honest. I purchased mine at Costco; their price was a bit cheaper than WalMart and I trust Costco to return it, if anything goes wrong. I also used my Amex, so then I get a year warranty...at least that's what the cashier told me. I now can upload all my iTunes easily, get online anywhere there is free wi-fi, upload my calendar and contacts. (I can even upload Clone Wars episodes through iTunes!) There is a weather widget that is so cool and of course, the apps. Man, there are a lot of them; I uploaded a free one with about 15 Star Wars soundbites that is funny. *smile* Morgan and I also decided that we needed the Bible on ours, so for a mere $4.99 we purchased a Bible app - very cool!

The is only one issue, though. I can't seem to get the battery fully charged...not sure why. It's really bugging me, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Since the iTouch has to be charged on the computer, perhaps it's my computer that's the issue. Or maybe the battery is defective and I need to get a replacement. Even though this is an irritant, I still really like my new toy.

So, a cover of some sort is on the shopping list, since it shows every little smudge and fingerprint (I never knew I had so much oil on my hands!) I'm thinkin' a car charger would be useful, too, for charging on roadtrips.

Mostly, though, I'm just hoping that this one doesn't crash...

Some things are toys; some things are tools. I vote "tool" in this case.

I still have a dinosaur phone. It doesn't even take pictures. And my day runner is a desk calendar. Talk about dark ages. But I refuse to be assimilated. ;)

I made the same decision when my Palm T|X started to have problems. I like it a lot though it doesn't handle notes as well as Palm. The only other thing I don't like is that it requires Outlook for desktop update/backup.

You DO have the lightsaber app, don't you? :)
