Transitional Check-in

Queenie-Gracie oversees the Bionicle construction

Thought I'd better check in, since I haven't posted in a couple of days. It's a strange time of year; that transition time between go-go-go summer and busy-busy-busy fall.

I don't really feel like we got much summer around here, but when I say that I hear, "but we had a heat wave a few weeks back!" Sure, we enjoyed (well, some of us anyway) a couple of weeks of hot, summer weather. It was glorious! But, mostly it would seem that we have had grey, albeit warmer, summer weather this year. I'm totally not ready to move into the grey, cooler weather of fall. (Someone suggested they liked the 'crispness' of fall...well, whatever. I'm glad someone enjoys feeling cold!) That's it, I'm buying one of those sun-lamps for people with S.A.D. and installing it in my craftroom!

The fall festivals are coming soon, and it's just about the deadline for me to order the etrogim & lulavim for the shul. If you are not sure what that is, the lulav & etrog are products grown in Israel that we wave in offering during Succot...but I won't talk too much about that until Succot is upon us, which will be early October.

We will celebrate Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur before Succot. The fall festivals are one right on top of another, that's for sure! Then, soon on the heels of the fall festivals is Hanukkah and the holiday season will be in full swing. *sigh* Yeah.

With the first of September comes a re-vamp of our homeschool work and goals. Chore lists are re-visited and shuffled, the kids clean out their school 'cubbies' and get ready to buckle back down to full days of subjects. During the summer we only tackle the 'heavy-hitters', which would be math and language studies, and even then studies are put on the back-burner while we enjoy summertime activities. But, now it's back to the grind for the students around here.

Happily, there is still the Fair coming in a week or so, and I'm ready for more troopin'! With new tabbards and back pouch for my Jedi gear, I am excited to spend time with friends from the Rebel Legion and 501st again. I enjoy the Western Washington Fair, aka The Puyallup Fair, which is held at the fairgrounds just down the road from me. We will be trooping three of the Sundays this month. Mmmmmm...scones! (The Puyallup Fair is the largest single attraction held annually in the state of Washington. The fair continually ranks in the top ten largest fairs in the United States.)

Since fall is upon us, hubby Rob and the boys are gearing up for the hunting season which starts very soon. Unfortunately, the Boiler Operators at Boeing may be going on strike during Elk Camp, which would really put a crimp in their plans. I'm hopin' for Rob's sake they don't go out; he always has to work long, hard hours when there is a strike to fill in for the absent strikers. The extra money is good, though. *shrug*

Well, that's about it from here...nothing earth shattering or deeply philosophical on this day. Perhaps that's a good thing.

We're looking at those pouches. As I predicted, one particular child said, "Ooooooo, cooool!"

I guess I need to find my leather stuff for him. ;-)

Given our day, nothing too deep is probably good, my friend! You're awesome!:o)
